In November 1999 two friends (Taz Cebula and Nick Iliffe) from
band named CREECH. Six months later Tim O’neill joined as Bass player, the chemistry was right and they soon built a strong following.
In July 2001 CREECH. recorded their first six track EP titled ‘ARROGANT CALL’. The EP debuted at number three in the local Virgin Charts. All this time CREECH. had been a three piece, it was decided that the new improved International CREECH. would acquire a lead guitarist to add new dimension to the already huge sound. One month later Ashley Spurrell joined on lead guitar. Ashley not only had the playing style that Taz was looking for, but was also perfect for the vocal harmonies he envisaged. A lengthy search for a new skinsman ensued, and in early 2004 Roddy Scarr joined. His solid sense of timing and hard hitting style cementing an already tight group. Later that year CREECH. recorded their first Australian EP, entitled ‘
In 2005 CREECH released a six track EP titled ‘TAKE IT
In June 2006 CREECH. went into Backbeach Studio with Producer Ren Parisi to record their debut full-length debut album ‘AWAY FROM HOME’. A lengthy mixing process took them into early 2007, when hardship struck again. Taz was diagnosed with an acute form of Lymphoma cancer. Not only this, a tumour had wrapped itself around his spine and broken it. Album release plans were put on hold indefinitely.
After emergency surgery to remove the tumour, Taz underwent a long and painful course of chemotherapy. He emerged at the end of all of this completely recovered, and he and the band had a renewed sense of resolve and creativity. During his layoff Taz produced a stunning and innovative new
It was also decided that a new Bassist would be brought in to replace Ron, and consummate professional Mick Read was added to the lineup, bringing with him a tighter, fatter and more polished bottom end.
The road ahead was now clear, and CREECH. rise above tragedy again to take their place in the booming Australian alternative Rock scene.
